Meet Annie!
She inspires us so much we named the Annie Fitted Muscle Tank in her honor. Annie’s inner strength is matched only by her physical strength. Seriously. She can deadlift a Nissan Versa. Annie exemplifies what it means to #pushthestandard. Here’s a look at how she does it.
Age: 32
Location: Washington, D.C.
How do you push the standard?
I push the standard by helping people begin to grasp the absolute magnitude of their own potential. Regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality or genetic makeup, I believe everyone has the ability to do something enormous and special with their life. While my influence on their life usually centers on their health and wellness, I encourage them to take control of their entire life and charge full speed at exactly what it is they want.
What’s on your mind at this very moment?
To be very honest, most of my day has been spent wondering what the ideal manicure would be for a softball pitcher. I love a good color story, but also wonder what length starts to impact the dynamic of their throw.
What’s your morning must-have before you talk to people or think about work?
My first steps of the morning involve 200mg of caffeine (preferably via espresso) and Rainbow Kitten Surprise Radio on Spotify.
Describe the happiest moment of your life.
I have had so many. Perhaps one of the most unexpected was a regular Saturday. My husband and I had found a place to live right by the water in Pacifica, California. We hung a hammock on our patio and watched whales, which is my favorite animal. Our neighbor slipped by and handed us a local craft beer. It was an unplanned, perfect moment. Sometimes, life just gives you these gifts.
What meal could you eat every day for the rest of your life and be totally happy about it?
I could eat cold pineapple and ham pizza on repeat until the end of time.
Who are your heroes?
The woman who taught me about the beauty in athleticism is Mia Hamm.
It’s time for a TV binge and you’re holding the remote. What are we watching?
I have never binge watched a show the way I binged on "Shameless." It is completely addicting.
What’s your greatest indulgence?
I am an absolute sucker for quality hair care products and services.
Tell us about your most meaningful journey.
During grad school, I was assigned to program PT for the ROTC program at the university I was attending. The dynamic between strength training and aerobic training combined with the lack of schedule autonomy was an absolutely fascinating challenge. Since then, I’ve dedicated a large portion of my professional life to training soldiers across the world, with over 600 clients. In recent years, I have become one of the leading special operations training subject matter experts. This population is one that was cast aside due to the pragmatic dilemmas for far too long. Being able to thoughtfully address the training roadblocks for general military needs as well as dozens of specialized military trials has pushed me to travel the world and remain a perpetual student of physiology.
Everyone has a secret superpower. What’s yours?
I never ever make a second trip to the car when carrying in groceries.
Where is your favorite spot in the whole world?
Exuma, Bahamas. Land of the friendly pigs!
If you could wake up tomorrow with any talent, what would it be?
I really wish I could sing. I regularly try, and I think everyone would benefit if I had even a slight ability to carry a tune.
What are the top 3 qualities of a strong woman?
1. Firm grasp on her own core values
2. Resilience in a sometimes brutal world.
3. The courage and tenacity to pursue the life she wants.
What was your most mortifying moment and how did you save face?
During college, I went to the Dominican Republic with a few of my friends. I wore a brand-new bikini and was absolutely feeling my best. However, I clearly did not know how to tie the top securely. I jumped into one wave and without feeling a thing, my entire top went flying into the depths of the ocean never to be seen again! I did the most awkward return to the ocean and yelled for my friends to grab a new top for me. I stayed in the ocean, avoiding other vacationers while my friends scrounged up a cropped jean jacket that had to suffice. I had to do a beachy walk of shame back to my loft and my friends haven't ever let me live it down. I would love to say I was able to save face, but there isn't any reason that I made it into my 20s before knowing how to tie a secure knot.
What is your greatest passion?
I am passionate about helping others appreciate their bodies.
In your next life, you’d like to come back as ...
I would love to come back as a T. rex just to shake things up a little bit.
